The Wolf Moon Rites
We scry our most visionary futures in the silver light of the midwinter moon. Here, we are marked by moments we have yet to live. Here, we wonder what might become of us, and we allow ourselves to be dreamt alive once more by those unseen Others who know us best. We crouch low over the fleshless bones of who we used to be, and we begin to sing a new song, a once-and-future hymn of tender hope restored and wildness renamed.
For both sessions, the only materials required are a journal and writing utensil. There are optional materials listed for the first event, but these are not necessary.
Session One: THE FLAME-TENDER’S ALTAR OF THE WILD WORD
Optional Materials: A LARGE piece of poster-board or newsprint that will become your “word altar” + sharpies/markers.
The archetype of the Flame-Tender is marked by the long-vision. This altar-keeper speaks to the “deep self” in a language our soul remembers but our minds forgot. During this first session, Danielle will lead participants through the process of creating a “word altar” for their sacred work in the coming year. We will only softly define “sacred work” as the direction toward which you feel yourself pulled as a new year dawns, as we grieve all that has fallen to bones and dare to tempt the impossible visions to come a little closer.
Session Two: THE MEDICINE OF MYTH
When we see through the lens of myth and wonder stories, we see how the epic tales of our own lives are both new and not new. Our grandmothers become the mountain hags and our lovers become the woodland shapeshifters. During this second session, participants will be invited to look at their sacred work in 2021 through the lens of myth. Danielle will discuss the living intelligence that is myth and participants will create their own initiatory Imbolc ritual, a work-visioning spell, and articulate meaningful descriptions of their work in the world, inviting the myth to come alive and dance through their offerings, art, circles, and ceremonies.
