Elemental Divination: Scrying the Way Forward

Welcome, beloved!

This second lesson focuses on elemental scrying. You won’t need any materials other than a journal and writing utensil in order to watch the video. For the homework that follows, you will need the following as discussed in the video.

A representation of the earth element. This can be a crystal, a stone, a patch of grass, a flower, dirt, mud, or clay.

A small bowl of water. You might want this to be large enough to dip your hands into.

A candle or larger fire if you prefer (fire in a hearth or woodstove works great, of course)

Smoke from stick incense, burning herb, or loose incense burned on a charcoal disc

You might designate four separate days to work with the elements. You will work with earth first, then water, fire, and, lastly, air/ether.

The steps of the practice, as discussed in the video, are these:

  1. Cast your gaze on your element and hold the tension of your question

  2. Let your inner narrator go through all the brilliant things it knows about this object

  3. Wait for the optical “illusions” to happen. This signifies the shift in consciousness. When this begins, revisit your question briefly but don’t get attached. Stay with the sacred gaze.

  4. Begin to look through the “brow window,” as if you’re looking through the space between and little bit above your brows. See what you see. Feel what you feel. Hear what you hear. Discount nothing.

  5. When it feels almost finished, let the eyes come closed and notice what you see now that the eyes are closed. Revisit your question, then offer gratitude to your teacher.

  6. Write down any imagery, sensations, memories, or signs that were gifted to you.

In reflection: Are any of the elements’ messages made more relevant by your myth/wonder story? Looking back on your “puzzle pieces,” are there any new ones that jump out to you as more important now? What element do you like working with the most? Why do you think that is?
