Dream Divination: The Language of the Knowing Field
Welcome, yet again, beloved!
This is the third lesson in the Mythic Divination mini-course. We’ll be working this week with dream divination. You won’t need anything other than a journal and writing utensil to watch the video, and the materials are very minimal for this week’s homework as well. As discussed in the video, the steps to dream divination are these:
When going to sleep, ask the dream-weaver for a specific dream.
If you receive one, write it down as objectively as possible, as close to waking, as you can.
When you have time but ideally that same day, revisit the dream description and circle every noun.
Make a list of these people, places, things, and ideas.
Ask yourself what each of these things means to you in this moment. Come up with a one to five work descriptor of each.
Go back to the original dream description and replace the nouns with the descriptors.
Read it back to yourself.
Example:
I was going into my basement, and I saw a snake with no eyes.
Basement = Place of secrets
Snake = Feminine sexuality
Eyes = Way to see
I was going into my place of secrets, and I saw feminine sexuality with no way to see.
In addition to the dreamwork this week, you will also be working with your chosen element, asking your unanswerable questions to that element and seeing how your answers complement the dreamwork.
In reflection: Dreams are a language. Keep track of your symbols and notice what is occurring in your life or the world when those symbols bubble up in your dreams. If you look at the dreamwork through the lens of myth, what do you notice?
